Wedding costs can add up very quickly, so making your own decorations can save a lot of money. It’s also the perfect way to add a unique and personal touch to your ceremony and reception. Here are a few ideas to get you started on the perfect Do-It-Yourself wedding!

Personalized Mason Jar Table Centerpieces

There are so many ways to decorate your reception tables. A classic choice is flowers, but fresh flower prices can really grow, especially if you have a large guest list. A great alternative is mason jars. You can find them in bulk at craft stores such as Michael’s. You can also find mason jars at the thrift store for a very affordable price. I did this with a friend of mine that was getting married. We went over to her apartment for the day and painted mason jars in her wedding colors and added her and her fiancé’s initials for a personalized touch. It was a fun day and the decorations turned out great. You can put candles or flowers in the jars for an extra touch.

A Take Home Decoration

Wedding planning is a whole lot of work and money for one day. Make something that you can take home and keep forever (along with your new husband!). A great idea is to leave something for wedding guests to write messages on for the bride and groom. You can use anything from a poster board that you can later frame to a piece of wood. It’s a neat keepsake that is personalized by your guests, which saves you time and gives guests something fun to do between the ceremony and reception. Get creative and make it something you’ll cherish for years to come.

DIY Photo Booth

This idea is so easy to make and adds a fun touch to your reception! Just make a simple frame out of poster board with the date of the wedding or any other detail you want. Then cut some shapes out of paper and attach them to a skewer to use as props in the photo booth. There’s many different approaches, all varying in price. The guests will have fun and you’ll get to see plenty of goofy pictures from your wedding!

Bonus

I was thrift shopping one day and saw a couple doing this and I had to include! The couple, soon to be married, went to the thrift store and bought a bunch of mugs in bulk. They must have gotten 100, and spoke to the manager to get a bulk deal. I’m assuming they were going to hand them out to guests as wedding gifts. I really loved the idea, it’s very unique and fun. Coffee mugs are used all the time by everyone, and the ones at the thrift store are always random and fun to look at. You could add the wedding date and initials of the bride and groom to personalize them, and then give them to guests to take home. I think it’s a very practical and fun gift for guests, and very inexpensive if you get them from the thrift store in bulk!

I hope you enjoyed the Do-It-Yourself Decoration tips, and the bonus guest gift idea at the end. Put them to use, and explore Pinterest for more money-saving ideas, there’s lots!
